First two Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Black Belts from Macau!

On Dezember 28, 2015, Prof. Rodrigo Caporal promoted our first homegrown Black Belts. Luis Serafim and Tiago Afonso. The two, part of the five, founding members of the Macau Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Association have been training together for over 9 years and now see their effort being rewarded by Professor Rodrigo Caporal. Making them the first ever Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Black Belts from Macau.   

Additionally, he also promoted two of our students to Brown Belt: Max Mak and Alex Jorge, one Purple Belt Dennis Chio and two Blue Belts Ho ChiWeng and Boom Truya. 

Congratulations to them and to all the other students that also got stripes on their Belts.

Claudio Calasans Seminar in Macau

We are very happy to announce that MacauBJJ is now officially under the teachings of Professor Rodrigo Caporal #RCJJ, Team Atos #Atos. 

Last week we had the great pleasure of hosting a seminar with 2015 middleweight IBJJF and 2015 ADCC Absolute Champion, Professor Claudio Calasans. During this event with five top Black Belts, Vitor Toledo, Marcelo Toledo e Makoto Oga, we graduated some of our students and we unveiled our two new banners. #AtosMacau

Loads of changes!

Macaubjj no longer runs under the Nova União flag or Daniel Charles. The older members of Macaubjj decided it was time to part and follow a different pass. 

Meantime the gym has grown like never before, new amazing mat area with official IJF approved mats, loads of seminars, with the likes of World Champion Bruno Amorim (Gracie Barra), Makoto Oga (Taiwan BJJ), Fernado Fernadez, Diogo Gomes (Rio Combat) and others. 

We have also organized and equipped the gym, to provide our members a bigger range of exercises to improve their mobility, cardio and ultimately their BJJ. 

So if you want to try BJJ in Macau make sure you pay us a visit and remember visit class is free!

News update!

Sorry for the long, long time since our last post…

We had a big graduation with an insane turnout! Our friends from Gracie Barra and Epic showed up and we had a record of 6 black belts on the mats. Big thanks to Professors, Rodrigo Medeiros, Silvio Braga, Mike Powers, Alberto Mina and Sandro Silva for showing up and making this an extra special graduation.

During these last few months we have also had the pleasure of hosting at our academy some really good friends. Prof Makoto Oga from Taiwan BJJ, Prof Makoto Aramaki from Hong Kong BJJ, Prof Diogo Gomes from San Francisco, BJJ Photographer Kinya Hashimoto and Prof Edison Kagohara from Japan and our old friend and one of the founders of Macabjj Patrick Goodwin from California and many others.

Meantime in the gym our MMA class on Fridays is getting some good numbers and our lunchtime rolls are getting bigger and bigger.

Hope you are all still training and enjoying the jiu-jitsu lifestyle!

We are glad to be the bearer of great news: Macau BJJ is lucky enough and have the honor to welcome Prof Makoto Ogasawara to help us grow our Jiujitsu for a few weeks starting from 22Aug.!!!

The timing is perfectly fitting because of Prof Daniel's trip to the Philippines to help open an affiliated school there (Prof Daniel will be away from 22Aug to 3Sept). 

Prof Makoto Oga and Prof Daniel Charles Pereira descend from the same Nova Uniao lineage, having trained and been graded by Nova Uniao's co-founder Mestre Wendell Alexandre. We need not, by now, talk about Prof Makoto Ogasawara's amazing Jiujitsu and competitive achievements, of which most of you should already be very well aware and also because at least some of us have become good friends with him. Let's just allow his Jiujitsu and teachings speak for themselves.

We have to shout-out a huge "Thank You", not only to Prof. Makoto Ogasawara - of course - but also to Taiwan BJJ, for allowing a little time off from their academy so he can spend some time with us. We are very honored, thank you. 

It should also be unnecessary to say that all of you should be diligently present at every training session to take in the maximum benefit from this experience. We trust we will have full classes all along. What's more, we encourage you guys to approach Prof Makoto to see if he is willing and available to do privates (one-on-ones).

Graduation 2012!

Time flies and we just had another graduation party last Saturday!

4 new purple belts from Daniels HK students, Louis, Donald, Eago e Long aka (Cabelinho), got their well deserved and long awaited purple Belts.

3 new blue belts where awarded to Prof Daniel Macau students; Sergio, Erick and Henry all got their blue Belts.

Prof Daniel also awarded stripes to his students, white, blue, purple and brown belt respectively. It was a great sight to watch considering that just 5 years ago we only had a purple belt present in our graduation and we had now a total of 8.

After the traditional whipping we had a great gathering in a local restaurant, were this time we hope all enjoyed the food and we were able to make up for last years disastrous meal.

Congratulations to all and keep on this great journey that is BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU!!!

Beware of fake Jiu-jitsu in Xi'An, China!!!

It’s difficult for us to treat this matter with anything but total seriousness. It has come to our attention that some less scrupulous people are teaching the art that we love so much without having the appropriate experience or rank. Needless to say that this is dangerous and that anyone attending these classes is in risk of serious injuries. We are not exaggerating, have a look at the video in the link below and right at the beginning you have some people doing simple front roles on their necks which, as you know, is a sure recipe for serious cervical spine injury (check out the 3rd guy doing the front roll). A simple thing that looks totally harmless but that can cause serious injury. Under proper supervision something like this is easy to correct, which only proves our point that the guy teaching does not have a clue. Academies like these should be closed before someone gets injured and brings harm to himself and also to the reputation of the art that we respect and love so much. Stay safe!!!

"It has come to our attention that one of our former students who trained at Checkmat Malaysia from December 2010 - January 2011 is now claiming the rank of purple belt in BJJ, and has opened a school in Xi'An, China. This person, Dan Adamant, started his BJJ training with us 6 months ago, as a completely new white belt, with matching white belt skills.

It comes as a complete shock to us that he is now wearing a brand new purple belt within such a short time frame. We would like to officially state that this person is not affiliated with Checkmat BJJ in any way, even though he has a picture of himself wearing a gi with a Checkmat patch on his Facebook page.

He has also officially claimed affiliation with Equipe Nucleo Jiujitsu, who via one of their black belts, Rhuando Brandao, have stated that they did not give him the rank of purple belt, or any rank for that matter. He will need to explain himself to relevant parties.

We are sending this note out to inform the community about this person and the mentioned team. If he feels the need to clear the air, he is most welcome, in fact, he is obliged to do so. He will need to explain his training history, how he obtained a purple belt within a 6-month time frame, and the instructor who awarded the belt to him.

Finally the boogeyman comes to light!!!

Some of you might think this is long overdue, others might think there is nothing to be changed and, finally, others just don’t care.

What are we talking about you are wondering? “BJJ rules”. In this case, something that is on everyone’s mind, we are talking about the "Jiu-jitsu boogeyman", “the Steroid Monster”.

You, the less fanatic jiu-jitsu mind, might be thinking: "what’s so scary?"

Well, in all or most sports there are clear rules about what athletes can and cannot take to improve their performance but, believe it or not, in BJJ there aren’t any guidelines or rules regarding performance-enhancing drugs, so pretty much anything goes.

Many wonder when will The Hulk show up in a BJJ world cup final. Guess now he will have to practice all the breathing technics that he learnt with Master Rickson and stay in is more human form if he wants to compete in the next Worlds.

ADCC SOUTH CHINA!

ADCC South China is a community of the local BJJ gyms in South China,  KLN BJJ, Hong Kong JJ, Gracie Barra HK, Kykin JJ, Grips, Versus performance, Taiwan BJJ and Macau BJJ.

Our aim is to encourage local BJJ/Grappling scene and create ADCC world Champion from our community. ADCC SC will hold regular competitions in Southern China and hopefully our competitions become one of the world trials in the closest future.
